The logo of the M.A.G.M.A.X represents a twin gypsum crystal “in the shape of a spear”, with the corresponding motto “Plura eius genera” (= it shows itself in many ways), definition by Pliny the Elder in the Historia Naturalis of 77 AD. Not surprisingly, the Gypsum, as multifaceted as the museum of which it is a symbol, is also in fact the only mineralogical species of economic interest existing in the province of Asti. Accompanying the numerous samples of local gypsum and from various parts of the world, the temporary exhibition presents related historical and scientific documents that vouch for the importance that this mineral resource has had for the area. In particular, one can admire the geological map of Monferrato from the end of the 19th century, the work of the famous geologist Federico Sacco.
The contents displayed by the temporary exhibition and further details will be collected in the monograph “GYPSUM” published by M.A.G.M.A.X
