From the Earth to the Moon and back?
The temporary exhibition, exhibited from 12 November 2022 to 25 April 2023 in the showcases of MAGMAX, offers the visitor the exclusive opportunity to admire the Moon from a geo-mineralogical point of view on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the last moon landing as part of the Apollo 17 mission in December 1972.
In addition to the sample of lunar dust (regolith), there are samples of terrestrial rocks and minerals, exact correspondents of the analogous species present on our satellite and brought back to Earth by the twelve astronauts who walked on the lunar surface, with particular attention to the only astronaut -geologist, Harrison “Jack” Schmitt. In line with the interdisciplinary spirit of MAGMAX, stamps, postcards, medals, figurines and documents relating to the Apollo missions and the lunar material taken from them are on display in support of the lithological material.
The opening of the temporary exhibition inaugurates the free public event on 2 December entirely dedicated to the Moon and celebrated in the Sala Pastrone in Asti, as part of the twelfth review of the Asti International Film Festival.
